MEMORANDUM FOR SEE DISTRIBUTION

SUBJECT: JRTC Fire Support Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures

1. Observer/Controllers of the Joint Readiness Training Center observe many innovative tactics, techniques, and procedures practiced by the rotating units and written in their SOPs. We also have the good fortune to exchange information with deployed units all over the world who must react to a wide range of battlefield conditions.

2. The purpose of this revised document is to continue to provide field artillery units, especially those who will rotate to JRTC and the United States Army Field Artillery School a reference of the many useful TTPs we have observed and shared. This document is not intended to replace doctrine nor be a substitute for an SOP.

3. The booklet is divided into five sections. Sections I and IV are updated SOP checklists. Most FSOPs are not in checklist format. We maintain that checklists are easier to follow under the stressful conditions of combat or a Combat Training Center. Part V is a group of articles and information papers written by the Fire Support Division O/Cs. Some of the articles are still in draft format while others have already been published in various professional journals. The reason for using the draft version of some of the articles is because they provide more information than the edited journal articles. [NOTE: Section V is not included in Web version of this document.]

4. Again, the only purpose of this booklet is to provide fire supporter's observations from rotations at the JRTC and deployments world wide from both heavy and light artillery units. The Fire Support Division takes full responsibility for any mistakes or misinterpretations. A disk is available upon request.

5. The Fire Support Division extends thanks to units for their input. Please send additional "good ideas" to the POC, CPT Jim Ekvall, DSN 863-0105, or write Operations Group, JRTC, Fire Support Division, Fort Polk, LA 71459-5000.
