FOREWORD

Maintaining soldier strength is the number one priority of the New Jersey Army National Guard. Unit readiness, hence, mission accomplishment is difficult to achieve if units do not maintain appropriate manning levels. Many states are looking for programs that help in the retention of the quality soldiers that keep the Army National Guard great.

In an effort to share individual state National Guard programs that work, "Retention New Jersey Style," is one of those programs. This is a virtual "how to" retain soldiers. This newsletter reflects New Jersey's program. It takes you through the duties and responsibilities of every leader-sharing ownership in the retention effort; tasks are identified and assignments made to ensure this ownership. This program also provides ideas for soldier sponsorship, career counseling, attendance improvement, unit climate, retention tools and recommended training for key personnel within your retention program.

Everything within our program may not be applicable to you. However, much of it is sure to apply. If you would like more information on our retention initiatives, contact the New Jersey Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Manger.
