INTRODUCTION

The CALL Lessons Learned Division, CTC Branch, collects these trends from the respective Observer/Controller (OC) teams and compiles the results. Organized by the Battlefield Operating System (BOS), the trends reflect both Positive Performance and Needs Emphasis based on quarterly assessment.

Each of the BOS is labeled according to Final Draft, TRADOC Pam 11-9, Blueprint of the Battlefield, dated 10 September 1993. Section I provides "bulletized" statements of either Positive Performance or Needs Emphasis grouped by BOS. If you want to read more about any particular observation, refer to the BOS narratives in Section II. These narratives give more depth and where appropriate and/or available, suggestions on how to improve those tasks needing emphasis.

NOTES:

1. The 10 September 1993 version of TRADOC Pam 11-9 updated the TA.5 Intelligence BOS: TA.5.1, Develop Tactical Intelligence Requirements. The addition of the new TA.5.1 resulted in an incremental increase in the second digit of all the subsequent numbers in the Intelligence BOS.

Beginning with all FY 96 CTC Trends publications, the Intelligence BOS numbering follows the new BOS numbers. Keep the new numbering system in mind as an audit trail when reviewing prior CTC Trends publications.

2. OCs covering various BOS sometimes submit very similar trends. If a trend listed in Section I is followed by this annotation (+), then that trend was duplicated. In Section II, that trend will only have a single narrative. That narrative will be a composite of the two original narratives. In each case, if the OCs mention a relevant technique or procedure, it will be included in the Section II narrative.

EXAMPLE:

* 5.1 Reconnaissance and Surveillance plan development (+++) (II-1)

In this example, the trend listed under the Intelligence BOS, 5.1, was repeated 3 times (+++), and the composite narrative for that trend is found in Section II, page 1 (II-1)
