EXECUTION LESSON LEARNED: USE ARTILLERY AND MORTAR ILLUMINATION TO FACILITATE DIRECT FIRE WEAPONS AT NIGHT

Whether the heavy maneuver TFs are modernized or non-modernized, they benefit from illumination. The widespread fear that illumination washes out thermal sights and other night vision devices appears wholly unfounded. Experience during live fire exercises shows that maneuver TFs fire more (and more accurately) when they use mortar or artillery illumination.
