EXAMPLE IMPLIED TASKS FOR MISSION ANALYSIS

  • Conduct force movement/convoy operations.

  • Conduct movement through 21st Infantry Division area of operations (AO).

  • Plan for casualty evacuation (CASEVAC)/ground and air.

  • Isolate/evacuate local population.

  • Clear flight landing strip (FLS)/repair FLS. (This task would more appropriately be specified. The implied tasks will come from the "what do we need to do to clear the FLS" question that often does not get asked.)

  • Linkup/extract long-range surveillance detachments (LRSD).

  • Clear/secure ground lines of communication (LOC).

  • Establish command and control (C2) forward. Determine its composition, the purpose, and who reports to it on what nets; if more than one node needed; where likely friction points are between two or more subordinate units that are going to need focused attention from higher, and, therefore, where C2 should be positioned.

  • Conduct tactical road movement of forces/assets into AO.

  • Conduct civil military operations (CMO) in Haynes settlement. (An example of too general a mission. More appropriate would be: What are the specific missions that must be accomplished to make CMO really effective in Haynes settlement?)

  • Maintain main supply route (MSR) to secure civil affairs (CA) team access to Haynes.

  • Withdraw under pressure.

  • Establish a detachment left in contact (DLIC).

  • Clear and establish tactical assembly area (TAA).
