OF MISSION TIPS FOR THE COMMANDER- During
initial guidance, tell the task force (TF) staff what you expect from them.
- Project
your voice so that everyone can hear you.
- Ensure
that your staff and commanders also project their voices.
- During
briefings and huddles sit close to the map where you can see and study it.
- During
briefings and huddles, when standing or sitting, face your staff and commanders
for good eye-to- eye contact.
- During
briefings avoid sidebar conversations and whispering.
- Ensure
the staff knows the information products needed for decision making/battle-tracking.
- Hold
briefings to a minimum. Avoid "dog and pony shows." Set a time limit.
- Support
the XO's time schedule.
- Ensure
that techniques and procedures for the Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP)
are well established and understood by all. Use your standing operating procedures
(SOP).
- Make
your participation in the MDMP a high priority. After all, it is going to be
your plan, so take ownership early.
