(O/C) OBSERVATIONS
ON
THE TASK FORCE STAFF- Staff
must be familiar with their TACSOP.
- TACSOP
must address the Military Decision-Making Process.
- Someone
must be responsible for training battle captains.
- Staff
must be familiar with their staff battle drills.
- Staff
must be thinking employment of battalions as part of the brigade fight.
- Staff
and S2 must have OPFOR template memorized.
- NCOs
must assist with analysis process.
- Attached
company commanders must be treated as commanders.
- Staff
must be familiar with the Military Decision-Making Process.
- XO
must have a feel for time requirements.
- Commander
or XO must proof WO/FRAGO/OPORD prior to its issue.
- A
scribe must be designated to record commander's guidance.
- There
must be signature blocks for the commander and S3 on WOs/FRAGOs.
- BOS
representatives must put on their "red hat" to support the S2 in the IPB process.
- Must
use sketches for COA development and briefings.
- Key
terrain and enemy avenues of approach must be shown on sketches.
- In
wargaming, the brigade staff must array forces to company level.
- In
wargaming, staffs must compare force ratios.
- BOS
representatives must articulate advantages/disadvantages during COA development.
- Staff
must conduct R& FS, and CSS rehearsals.
- In
rehearsals, subordinate commanders must discuss their unit's disposition as
well as how to defeat the enemy force with combat, combat support, and CSS
units.
- LNOs
must understand their roles and responsibilities in the brigade TOC.
- Brigade/battalion
confirmation briefs/backbriefs must be standardized.
- Staff
must post and update CCIR, synchronization matrix, and DST.
- Brigade
staff must think of decisive points and decision points for the brigade and
battalions.
- Staff
must be briefed and kept current on the present situation during the planning
process.
