RECONNAISSANCE PLAN- Issue
the reconnaissance plan as a fragmentary order (FRAGO) and include the following:
- Composition
and task organization for reconnaissance. An assembly area.
- Key
facts impacting on priority information requirements (PIR) for reconnaissance.
- Identified
movement routes/formations to the reconnaissance location.
- Actions
on reaching the location.
- Special
instructions to members of the reconnaissance party. (Collection tasks should
be specified.)
- Any
special equipment required (chemical detection kits, expedient or directional
antennas).
- Support
required to the reconnaissance force prior to crossing the line of departure
(LD).
- Contingency
plans.
- Requirements
for continued surveillance after the initial reconnaissance.
- Communications
arrangements (nets, retransmission sites).
- Withdrawal,
linkup, and dissemination plans.
- Security
arrangements.
- Key
decisions that leaders must make:
- Location
of decisive point(s).
- Location
of engagement areas.
- Location
of the main effort.
- Location
of key terrain and obstacles.
- Location
of counter-reconnaissance forces.
- Additional
questions to be answered as a result of the reconnaissance are:
- Where
must leaders go to get information for these decisions?
- What
do leaders need to see for themselves; what can be delegated?
- What
does the staff do with the information gathered from the reconnaissance?
