Introduction

Family readiness initiatives are designed to assist Army families during periods of deployment or emergency. They also provide a means of information flow between the military and family members about family-related issues. Rear detachment commanders (RDCs) and Family Readiness Groups (FRGs) provide the primary support among family members in units during deployment. During periods of non-deployment, FRG activities are directed at developing a sense of community among families in partnership with their unit.

This newsletter consists of lessons gleaned from examining the operations and organization of FRGs and rear detachment personnel during Operations JOINT GUARD, JOINT FORGE and INTRINSIC ACTION. It is an update of a previously published CALL newsletter (Special Bulletin No. 91-2, Jun 91, The Yellow Ribbon) which focused on family readiness issues from Operations DESERT SHIELD and DESERT STORM.

If your unit has identified lessons learned or techniques and procedures on family readiness, please share them with the rest of the Army by contacting CALL at DSN 552-2255 or 3035, FAX DSN 552-9583, or commercial (913) 684-2255 or 3035. Our email address is call@leavenworth.army.mil, and our web site is . Be sure to include your phone number and complete address when contacting CALL.
