This newsletter provides family readiness lessons for the Reserve Component. The lessons were collected from unit FRGs as their soldiers conducted actual operations throughout the world.
As mentioned in CALL Newsletter No. 01-3, Family Readiness, Jan 01, initiatives are designed for two separate but related efforts. The first effort is to educate and prepare families for the possibility that their soldier may be called upon to deploy. The initiatives provide a means of information flow between the military and family members about family-related issues. The other effort is to assist families during those periods of deployment. During periods of non-deployment, FRG activities are directed at developing a sense of community among families in partnership with their unit. This mission is very important in Reserve Component (RC) units, where it is common for half of the unit or less to have any active duty experience. Active component (AC) families live everyday on or near military installations and receive information exchange benefits to enhance FRG programs. This newsletter provides the Reserve Component the ability to share similar exchanges of FRG lessons. This is also one of the areas that, if conducted properly, could help an RC unit in the area of retention when the unit members and their families believe that, if deployed, they will receive support.
