This Center for Army Lessons Learned (CALL) newsletter discusses lessons learned during Operation DESERT THUNDER in Kuwait, February through April 1998. The combat, combat support, and combat service support tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) provide insights into and solutions for myriad operational challenges that may be encountered in any coalition or combined joint task force environment. This newsletter discusses the ways in which this unique C/JTF was formed and the lessons learned during the operation.

DESERT THUNDER provided a tremendous learning ground. The establishment of C/JTF-KU set the right conditions for success during future operations. The observations and procedures discussed in this issue can be used as a model to build future coalition task forces, if needed.

The information in this newsletter does not replicate that presently found in doctrinal publications. It is not intended to serve as a program to guide the conduct of operations and training. Rather, this newsletter is designed to highlight information and lessons that are applicable to the evolving environment offered by coalition/joint task force operations.

CALL thanks the leaders and soldiers of the U.S. Army Forces Central Command (ARCENT) who shared their insights and experiences.
