Transportation Command and Control Units

HHC, TRANSCOM (TOE 55601L0000)

MISSION AND ASSIGNMENT

C-A-1. To command, control, and provide technical supervision of assigned/attached units supporting the TA modes of transportation and related services including DS/GS maintenance for rail and Army watercraft. It also provides staff assistance to the TA DCSLOG for theater level transportation plans, policies, and procedures; information on transportation capacity and capability to the TAMCA; liaison with other US and allied forces; and control of designated wartime HNS resources. This unit is assigned to the TA.

CAPABILITIES

C-A-2. Commands and supervises the activities of all transportation HQ and other assigned or attached units operating and/or supporting the TA transportation services required in support of the TA.

FUNCTIONS

C-A-3. Performs the following functions:

  • Provides staff planning and coordination of transportation combat services support activities as assigned by the TA DCSLOG.
  • Conducts liaison with other US forces, TA, and host and allied nations as directed by the TA DCSLOG.
  • Controls, through its subordinate HQ, the HN resources allocated to the TA transportation service.

HHC, TRANSPORTATION COMPOSITE GROUP (TOE 55622L000)

MISSION AND ASSIGNMENT

C-A-4. To command units that provide transportation services for an independent division-sized force, for a two-division separate Corps force, or on an area basis in support of a larger force. This unit is normally assigned to the HQ commanding an independent division-sized force to the Corps, with attachment to the COSCOM, when supporting a two-division separate Corps force; or to a TA, with attachment to a TRANSCOM, when providing support to a larger force.

CAPABILITIES

C-A-5. This unit has the following capabilities:

  • Commands, controls, and technically supervises three to seven battalions and their assigned/attached units.
  • Develops and supervises implementation of programs, plans, and policies for employment of attached units and contract/ wartime HN agencies/units providing transportation support.
  • Provides a liaison officer to its HQ of attachment.
  • Provides a nucleus organization during the early stages of the buildup of an immature theater for the development of a transportation brigade or TRANSCOM as the theater matures.
  • Performs relational database management and table maintenance functions for the regional segment of the worldwide port system and provides technical supervision of worldwide port system operations throughout the composite group's operational area.
  • Coordinates rear area security and damage control activities of subordinate units with the designated rear area commander.
  • Commands motor/rail transport; terminal service/cargo transfer; and watercraft units/teams. It can also control host/ allied nation and indigenous personnel and equipment employed in transportation support of an independent division-size force, two division separate Corps forces, or to provide all transportation services on an area basis, when required.

HHC, TRANSPORTATION TERMINAL BATTALION (TOE 55816L000)

MISSION AND ASSIGNMENT

C-A-6. To provide command and control, planning, and supervision of attached units employed in the operation of a water terminal. The HQ company provides unit administration and logistical support for the battalion staff sections. This organization is assigned to a theater TRANSCOM normally attached to a transportation composite group.

CAPABILITIES

C-A-7. This unit provides:

  • Command and control, planning, and supervision of attached units required to load/unload up to four ships simultaneously at an established water terminal or up to two ships simultaneously at a LOTS site.
  • The command element for operation of intermediate staging areas of airborne units.
  • The command element for operation of inland waterways and support of amphibious operations.
  • Food service support for the MCT (region) (TOE 55580LD00).

HHD, MOTOR TRANSPORT BATTALION (TOE 55716L000)

MISSION AND ASSIGNMENT

C-A-8. To provide command, control, and supervision of units engaged in all types of motor transport operations. This organization is assigned to a Corps, attached to a Corps support group or to a TRANSCOM or attached to a transportation composite group.

CAPABILITIES

C-A-9. This unit:

  • Provides command, control, and supervision of three to seven transportation companies and attached support units, or a combination thereof.
  • Plans and schedules requirements to conform with the overall movement program.
  • Translates transportation requirements from higher HQ into specific vehicles or units required.
  • Evaluates highway traffic plans affecting road movement, to include terrain, road conditions, and security.
  • Supervises the operation of truck terminals, TTPs, and/or a trailer relay system.
  • Coordinates HNS.
  • Provides religious support to attached units.
  • Provides unit maintenance on communications/electronic equipment, except communications security equipment for attached units.
