Drone incursions into the national airspace detected by the Romanian Air Force

The Ministry of National Defence radars detected a target heading towards the national airspace on the morning of November 25th, near Tulcea County. At 06:28, two German Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft scrambled from Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base to monitor the situation.

The target crossed the national airspace from Vylcove (Ukraine) to Chilia Veche area, Tulcea County.

A Ro-Alert message was sent to the population in Tulcea County at 06:55.

At 07.11, the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft reported radar contact with the target over the Ukrainian territory, outside the Romanian airspace.

At 07:37, two F16 Fighting Falcon aircraft scrambled from the 86th Air Base in Borcea and a Ro-Alert was also issued for the population in Galați County, at 07:48.

At 07.50,the radar systems detected a second intrusion into the national airspace, in Galați County, and F-16 aircraft reported radar contact with it.

At the time the press release was issued, the situation was being monitored by the Ministry of National Defence.

Law No. 73 of 2025 provides the legal framework for the shooting down of drones and aerial vehicles that enter the national airspace without authorization, under the circumstances stipulated in Art. 18: "The measures stipulated in Art. 11 are issued in relation to the level of the threat, within the limits of the applicable international law, after having taken into account all the specific circumstances of the event and the priority of protecting people's lives, the last possible solution ordered being the destruction of the aircraft that intruded into the national airspace without authorization."
