On November 17-23 NATO Air Policing fighter aircraft were scrambled in response to violations of international flight regulations three times.
On November 17 NATO fighter jets intercepted one IL-20 flying through international airspace from the mainland of the Russian Federation to Kaliningrad Oblast. Its onboard transponder was switched on and radio communication with the regional air traffic control was maintained but the crew had no pre-filed plan for the flight.
On November 18 NATO fighter aircraft identified and escorted one TU-134UBL and one SU-30 flying through international airspace from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad. Their onboard transponders were switched off, the crews were not maintaining radio communication and had no pre-filed flight plans.
On November 20 NATO Air Policing fighter jets were scrambled to intercept one IL-20 flying through international airspace from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad. It onboard transponder was off, the crew was maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control but had no pre-filed flight plan.
