Renewed violations of Lithuanian airspace from Belarus: Protest note delivered to Embassy representative, reminder of unresolved issue regarding detained carriers' property and denial of entry into Lithuania

Republic of Lithuania - Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Updated 2025-11-25

On November 24, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania summoned a representative of the Embassy of Belarus and issued a strong protest against over renewed Belarusian hybrid attacks. During the meeting, the Belarusian representative was informed about the violations of Lithuania's airspace from the territory of Belarus in recent days, which are considered by the Lithuanian side as a threat to national security and civil aviation. It was also stressed that the incidents on 20 and 23-24 November led to the forced suspension of the operations of Vilnius International Airport.

The Ministry demanded that Belarus take immediate measures to prevent such violations from occurring again and reminded that, with Belarus deliberately avoiding to prevent similar hybrid activities, Lithuania reserves the right to renew restrictions on the crossing of the state border or to impose additional countermeasures.

The representative of Belarus was also reminded once again of the unresolved issue of the deliberate seizure and refusal to release into the territory of the Republic of Lithuania of trucks, trailers, and semi-trailers registered in the European Union and belonging to natural or legal persons of the European Union from the territory of the Republic of Belarus.
