Northern Strike 25-2: Joint Artillery Exercise in Northern Finland

NATO Allied Joint Force Command (JFC) Brunssum

Nov 21 2025

BRUNSSUM, The Netherlands -- On 17 November 2025, Finland launched the Northern Strike 25-2 artillery exercise at the Rovajärvi training area in Lapland. The exercise involves around 2,200 soldiers and more than 500 military vehicles and systems. It is led by the Kainuu Brigade, with participation from the Pori and Jäger Brigades, as well as units of the Finnish Border Guard.

For the first time, Finland is also hosting two Polish Homar-K rocket launchers and around 40 soldiers from the 1st Masurian Artillery Brigade, with the systems integrated into Finnish command and fire-control networks as part of the exercise scenario.

The main objective of Northern Strike 25-2 is to test and improve the full artillery operational chain: target acquisition, command and control, digital fire coordination, ammunition logistics, and sustained operations in harsh winter conditions. The drill focuses on integrating dispersed artillery units and ensuring they can deliver precise, coordinated fire under low temperatures, snow and limited visibility.

The exercise is set to run until the 25 November, with its final phase focusing on coordinated live-fire missions and joint command procedures.

Northern Strike 25-2 is designed to strengthen interoperability, reaction speed and operational readiness of participating forces. It also serves as a clear signal of unity, cooperation and preparedness among allied nations, demonstrating their ability to train, deploy and operate together in demanding northern conditions.
