USA will continue to firmly support Romania in order strengthen deterrence and defence at national and allied levels

A new meeting of the Romania-US High-Level Defence Group (HLDG) coordinated with the new administration in Washington took place in Bucharest, on November 17th and 18th.
This was the first HLDG-level visit paid to an allied state by the new Assistant Secretary of War for International Security Affairs, Daniel Zimmerman.
On Tuesday, November 18th, Minister of National Defence, Liviu-Ionuț Moșteanu, had a meeting with the US delegation. The Romanian official reconfirmed Romania's commitment to strengthening the Strategic Partnership with the United States of America, by gradually increasing the defence budget to 5% of GDP by 2035, continuing running the procurement programs, the joint training and assuming a leading role in the Black Sea region, respectively a substantial contribution within NATO.
The extended strategic consultation session of the HLDG has also taken place today, headed by State Secretary for Defence Policy, Planning and International Relations, Sorin-Dan Moldovan. The talks focused on the developments in the global strategic environment, the American forces' posture in Romania, the significant defence investments undertaken by our country, as well as the role of security provider on NATO's eastern and southeastern flanks, in accordance with the guidelines and objectives set in the National Defence Strategy for 2025 - 2030. The discussions have highlighted the fact that Romania remains a central point of the Euro-Atlantic security architecture and a trustworthy partner of the USA.
The topics addressed included Romania's active contribution to strengthening the allied position in the Black Sea region, cooperation in the field of training and joint exercises, as well as major procurement programs intended to modernize the armed forces, with an emphasis on the development of the infrastructure and military mobility necessary to support the allied presence on national territory.
The discussions reconfirmed the soundness of the Romania-US Strategic Partnership and the joint commitment to enhancing security in the Euro-Atlantic space.
On Monday, November 17th, the American delegation's visit schedule included visits to the 86th Air Base in Borcea, where the officials were briefed on the progress of the European F-16 Training Center, a project developed in cooperation with the American partner, as well as on the Aegis Ashore Facility in Deveselu, an essential part of NATO's ballistic missile defence architecture.
The delegations analyzed the existing operational capabilities, modernization projects and prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation in the field of strategic infrastructure.
