'I welcome the Security Council's decision. It is important that the Security Council has endorsed the 20-point peace plan, which Norway also supports. It is crucial that the ceasefire in Gaza is respected and continues, and that work on phase 2 of the 20-point plan can now proceed. In addition to international support, it is essential that the Palestinian people have confidence in these efforts,' says Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide.

'Norway continuously assesses how we can contribute concretely to the implementation of the 20-point plan. Among other measures, we have sent personnel to the region to gather information about the Civil-Military Coordination Centre for Gaza (CMCC). Norway has recognised Palestine as an independent state. We will continue to work for a unified Palestinian state-building agenda, where all of Palestine - both Gaza and the West Bank - can be freely governed by the Palestinians themselves. We will support the Palestinian government in making this practically possible.' says the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

'In cooperation with key Arab countries, the United States has succeeded in moving the conflict onto a new track. We need a lasting end to the war in Gaza, and a political solution to the conflict that ensures security, freedom and independence for both the Israeli and Palestinian peoples. It is now vital that all countries support and contribute to the implementation of this plan,' says Barth Eide.
