"Finland can count on your NATO Allies" - NATO Secretary General

NATO - North Atlantic Treaty Organisation

17 November 2025

On Monday 17 November 2025, the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb visited NATO headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, for a bilateral meeting with Secretary General Mark Rutte.

Since its accession to NATO in April 2023, Finland has proved itself a capable and reliable Ally. Speaking at their joint press conference, Mr Rutte praised Finland's practical approach to security, and its contributions to protecting critical undersea infrastructure, both with its robust national approach, and through NATO's Baltic Sentry. He also highlighted the contributions Finland has made to securing NATO skies, its support for space-based capabilities, and its Arctic expertise.

"Finland can count on your NATO Allies" the Secretary General stated.

"Finland has always recognised the importance of security, and you know what it takes to deliver it", he continued.

"Together with Sweden, you are establishing a new NATO Forward Land Force in Finland that will further reinforce NATO's posture. And of course, I welcome the new Multi-Corps Land Component Command in Mikkeli which will plan, prepare and run the activities of NATO land forces in Northern Europe."

Finland's staunch support to Ukraine was also highlighted, with its recent 100 million Euro investment in the PURL initiative, alongside Nordic and Baltic Allies adding to around 2.8 billion Euro already provided in dedicated military aid.
