This position was expressed during a meeting between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita, and his counterpart from Papua New Guinea, Justin Tkatchenko, on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly High-level Week.
During this meeting, the two parties signed the cooperation roadmap for the period 2025-2027, in line with the High Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, for strengthening South-South cooperation with developing countries in different regions of the world.
In this roadmap, this Pacific island nation reiterates its full support for Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara, the Kingdom's sovereignty over its Southern Provinces, and the Moroccan Autonomy Plan as the only solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
"The Sahara region is, and has always been, an integral part of Moroccan territory," Papua New Guinea solemnly declared, commending "Morocco's serious and credible efforts to achieve a realistic, pragmatic, and sustainable political solution, based on compromise, to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara."
Papua New Guinea stressed that "the Moroccan autonomy initiative, within the framework of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom, is the one and only solution to this regional dispute, in accordance with Security Council resolutions since 2007, including resolution 2756 of October 31, 2024."
Papua New Guinea's unwavering support for Morocco's national cause further strengthens the broad international support enjoyed by the Kingdom to bring a definitive end to this regional dispute.
Similarly, Papua New Guinea expressed its gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI for the Kingdom's commitment to raising its partnership with the Pacific Island States to unprecedented levels.
In addition, this island nation praised the Sovereign's vision for strengthening South-South cooperation and Morocco's role as a hub for Southern countries.
The roadmap signed between Morocco and Papua New Guinea will enable the Kingdom to contribute to the development of this country through a fruitful, constructive, and mutually beneficial partnership.
