Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister (DPM/FM) of Pakistan, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, addressed the United Nations Security Council's (UNSC) High-Level Briefing on "the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question" in New York today.

In his statement, the DPM/FM highlighted the urgent and critical situation faced by the Palestinian people. While highlighting that Pakistan had the honor to be among the first countries to recognize the State of Palestine following its declaration of independence in 1988, he underscored Pakistan's unwavering diplomatic support for the Palestinians' struggle for self-determination and justice.

He also stated that the Palestinian people are experiencing an unimaginable tragedy, including an "unbearable daily toll on human lives, the destruction of homes and neighborhoods, and the obliteration of essential infrastructure". The DPM/FM also stressed that Gaza has become a graveyard for humanity as well as for the global conscience.

In his statement, he urged the international community to take urgent and concrete measures inter alia:

  • An immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire to stop the bloodshed;
  • Full and unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza and the immediate lifting of the blockade to allow life-saving aid to reach those in need; and
  • A categorical end to any forced displacement of Palestinians, while upholding the right of return for refugees and establishing an international protection mechanism.

The DPM/FM also called upon the United Nations Security Council and the international community to "act decisively, to uphold human dignity, to ensure accountability and deliver justice". He emphasized that "the time for words has passed" and that "the time for action is now".
