On 23 September 2025, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andžejs Viļumsons, met with the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, Christiaan Rebergen, who had arrived in Latvia for a working visit.

At the meeting, the officials discussed bilateral relations between Latvia and the Netherlands, challenges to Europe's security, violations of Estonian and Polish airspace by Russia, and measures in support of Ukraine. The diplomats also spoke about the situation in the Middle East and preparations for Latvia's term of membership on the UN Security Council in 2026-2027.

State Secretary Andžejs Viļumsons thanked the Netherlands for its contribution to strengthening the security of the Baltic region.

In view of the plans by both countries to increase funding for their national defence, the officials then shared views on the impact of budget consolidation on the functioning of the diplomatic services of the two countries, as well as the introduction of innovations in the work of the diplomatic service.
