Aboul Gheit welcomes General Assembly's adoption of draft resolution on two-state solution

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, welcomed the overwhelming adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of a draft resolution endorsing the New York Declaration, issued in July, on the implementation of the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.

Gamal Roshdy, Spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that the overwhelming support for the resolution reflects a growing international consensus on the necessity of implementing the two-state solution, asserting that the countries which did not vote in favour of the resolution stand on the wrong side of history.

He further quoted the Secretary-General as stressing that the General Assembly's adoption of this resolution reinforces the outcomes of the conference on the implementation of the two-state solution and strengthens global momentum in its favour, particularly in view of the intention of several countries to recognise the State of Palestine in the coming days, in tandem with the summit-level conference on 22 September.
