Hamas has condemned US complicity with Israel in the airstrike on Qatar and assassination attempt against the leaders of the Palestinian resistance movement, saying they sought to kill off talks on a potential ceasefire in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhoum said in a televised statement on Thursday that the bid to murder Hamas's negotiating team in Doha, along with ongoing threats to attack the movement's leadership abroad, demonstrates the usurping entity's "inability to attain its objectives" following 23 months of war on Gaza.

He pointed out that the assassination attempt happened while the delegation was engaged in talks about a ceasefire proposal.

Barhoum stated that the bombing targeted the residence of the head of the negotiating delegation Khalil al-Hayya, injuring his wife, the spouse of his deceased son, Hammam al-Hayya, along with his grandchildren.

The "crime", he said, was an attack on the entire negotiation process.

The Hamas spokesperson stated that the Israeli strike represented not only an assault on Qatar's sovereignty and security, but also "a declaration of open war against all Arab and Islamic nations" and posed a threat to the stability of the entire West Asia region.

Barhoum also took a swipe at Washington for being "a full accomplice" in the Israeli attack.

The White House said President Donald Trump did not agree with Israel's decision to take military action. He said he was not notified in advance and when he heard, he asked his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, to warn Qatar immediately - but the attack had already started.

Hamas said five of its members had been killed in the attack, including the son of its Gaza chief and top negotiator, Khalil al-Hayya.

Hamas political bureau member Suhail al-Hindi told Al Jazeera TV that the group's top leadership had survived the attack.

Funeral for victims of Israeli attack on Doha held

On Thursday, the funeral service for the people killed in Israel's attack was held in Doha.

The bodies of the six victims of the attack were carried into the state mosque in the Qatari capital - five were covered with the flag of Palestine and one with that of Qatar.

Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani was among those attending the prayer.

The service was held at Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque, and was followed by the burial at Mesaimeer Cemetery.
