China does not accept the Philippines' groundless accusations and so-called protests, and urges the Philippines to stop violating China's sovereignty, making provocation, and spreading disinformation, and stop creating factors that could complicate the situation at sea, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said on Thursday, after the Philippines said it "strongly protests" against China's plan to develop a nature reserve.

China's State Council has recently responded to and approved a proposal by the Ministry of Natural Resources to establish Huangyan Dao national nature reserve.

The Philippines said on Thursday it "strongly protests" China's plan to develop the nature reserve, Reuters reported.

In response, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said that "Huangyan Dao has always been China's territory. To establish the Huangyan Dao national nature reserve is within China's sovereign rights, which is aimed at protecting the ecological environment of the island, and ensuring its ecological diversity, continuity and sustainability."

This move is in line with China's domestic laws and international law, and fully shows that China, a responsible major country, is resolved to actively protect the ecological environment and a sustainable planet, Lin said.

"The scope of Philippine territory is defined by several international treaties, and has never included Huangyan Dao," said Lin.
