When asked to comment on reports of the Philippine foreign ministry claiming on Thursday it "strongly protests" China's plan to create a national nature reserve in Huangyan Dao, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said that "Huangyan Dao is China's inherent territory. The establishment of the Huangyan Dao national nature reserve falls entirely within China's sovereignty and is aimed at protecting the diversity, stability and sustainability of the ecological environment of Huangyan Dao.

This move is in line with China's domestic law and international law, and it fully demonstrates China's sense of responsibility as a major country in actively protecting the ecological environment and promoting sustainable development, Lin said.

"The scope of the Philippines' territory has long been defined by a series of international treaties, and Huangyan Dao has never been part of it. China does not accept the Philippines' unreasonable accusations or so-called protests, and urges the Philippines to immediately stop its infringements, provocations, and reckless hype to avoid adding complicating factors to the maritime situation," said Lin.
