From 8 to 10 September, Foreign Ministry's Secretary General Jonatan Vseviov, together with Secretary of State Keit Kasemets, Culture Ministry's Secretary General Kristiina Alliksaar, Secretary General of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications Ahti Kuningas, Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance Merike Saks, Secretary General of the Ministry of the Interior Tarmo Miilits, and the Climate Ministry's Secretary General Marten Kokk, took part in a joint visit to Moldova. The aim of the visit was to demonstrate Estonia's broad-based support for Moldova's European integration, to familiarise themselves with Estonia's development cooperation projects in Moldova, and to gain an overview of the political situation ahead of the parliamentary elections there.

According to Vseviov, the participation of senior representatives from several ministries shows that Estonia's support for Moldova cuts across different sectors, and that a joint visit is a good opportunity to demonstrate Estonia's comprehensive backing for Moldova on its European integration path. Vseviov added that another goal of the visit was to learn from the points of cooperation between the two countries and to identify which Estonian expertise and experience would be of the greatest benefit to Moldova.

In his meeting with the Moldovan prime minister and during plenary sessions with Moldovan ministerial chancellors, Vseviov underlined that for Estonia it is of utmost importance that the European Union begins negotiations with both Moldova and Ukraine as soon as possible. He stressed that EU enlargement must be a priority for all member states, as it affects the future and security of the whole of Europe.

In light of Moldova's upcoming elections, the chancellors and government secretary were also briefed on Russia's influence operations and disinformation strategies. It was jointly acknowledged that Russia is investing extraordinary resources into influencing the people of Moldova. Estonia supports Moldova in countering such influence primarily through development cooperation projects, by contributing to civil society organisations and independent media outlets.

The secretaries general also visited the autonomous region of Gagauzia in Moldova, where the Impact Gagauzia project, led by ESTDEV, was launched. The project aims to train local government officials to successfully participate in European Union programmes. In addition, the secretaries general met with students from a local computer and media skills school, whose digital education is being supported by Estonia through micro-financing projects.
