Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has denounced the Israeli strike on Qatar and assassination attempt against leaders of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, calling on Muslim nations to act in unison to stand against the Zionist entity.
In a message addressed to Chairman of Consultative Assembly of Qatar Hassan bin Abdulla al-Ghanim on Wednesday, Qalibaf stated that the aggressive Israeli aerial assault on the headquarters of the group in Doha has stirred up anger and disgust among the Iranian nation and legislators.
"Iran stands with its Qatari and Palestinian brethren, and condemns this criminal attack against the urban areas of Doha and the civilian guests of the Qatari government," he noted.
The top Iranian lawmaker expressed condolences for the killing of Palestinian and Qatari citizens in the malicious attack, and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.
"This blatant crime is a clear violation of international law and an example of state terrorism, as well as an outward manifestation of the inhumane and anti-human rights nature of the Israeli regime — an entity that has always fueled violence, crisis, and instability in the region through support of Western powers," Qalibaf stated.
He said the Iranian legislature is fully prepared to strengthen cooperation with Qatar in countering the Israeli regime's threats to regional peace and security.
The Shura Council, Qatar's legislative body, has condemned the Israeli attack on Doha on Tuesday, calling it "treacherous, cowardly, and criminal".
In a statement, the Council described the assault as a "flagrant violation of Qatar's sovereignty and security, and a grave threat to the safety of its people, both citizens and residents".
It also warned that the international community's failure to hold Israel accountable for its "repeated crimes", including the "war of genocide it has been waging against the Gaza Strip and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories for nearly two years," has only emboldened it to expand its attacks and commit further atrocities across the region.
The Council further denounced the threat made by the speaker of the Knesset after the attack, in which he described it as "a message for the entire Middle East".
The Shura Council reaffirmed Qatar's "firm and principled stance in support of the Palestinian cause", saying it rejects any "attempts aimed at liquidating it, whether through displacement projects, settlement expansion, or imposed solutions that undermine the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people".
Hamas said five of its members had been killed in the attack, including the son of its Gaza chief and top negotiator Khalil al-Hayya.
Hamas political bureau member Suhail al-Hindi told Al Jazeera TV the group's top leadership had survived the attack.
