Deputy Prime Minister W. Kosiniak-Kamysz: This is a large-scale provocation

Poland - Ministry of National Defence

10.09.2025

- It was a very busy night for the Polish Armed Forces, for all services, for pilots, for ground personnel, for all elements of the Polish state security system. From yesterday evening, in fact, right after my arrival in London, I was in contact with General Klisz, who made the decision to activate all forces and resources. All night, all systems and resources available for the security of the Polish state, needed for this operation, were activated. Both Polish and allied procedures worked. I would like to thank above all those who are carrying out this mission all the time. This stage has ended, but military service and all allied duties, of course, continue. I particularly thank the pilots of the Air Force and the officers of the Air Force of the Kingdom of the Netherlands - emphasized Deputy Prime Minister W. Kosiniak-Kamysz at a press conference regarding the unprecedented violation of Polish airspace by drone-type objects.

On Wednesday, September 10, the Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the Ministry of National Defence (MOD), Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, at a press conference, conveyed the most important information regarding the violations of the airspace of the Republic of Poland and the actions undertaken by the Polish Armed Forces and its allies.

- I thank all our allies who are providing support, and of course, the Polish Armed Forces. We have the situation under control. This is a moment that requires our cooperation. From the very beginning, the most important people in the country were informed—the President and the Prime Minister. This is natural, and this is how we will proceed. There is a very good exchange of information between the Ministry of National Defence and the National Security Bureau and vice versa—between the NSB and the ministry's structures, as well as the structures of the Polish Army. Polish airspace has been violated multiple times. The Operational Commander decided to use means. I kindly ask everyone to be cautious and follow the communiqués. This is a moment when it is also necessary to secure the debris of drones falling as a result of the impact—therefore, if anyone observes them, we ask that you report the information to the services, primarily the police. They will already know what needs to be done

- the Deputy Prime Minister reported.

On Tuesday night, Russia launched further massive airstrikes against targets located in Ukraine. To ensure the security of Polish airspace, the Operational Commander of the Polish Armed Forces activated all necessary procedures. During the Russian Federation's attack on Ukraine, Polish airspace was repeatedly violated by drones, which posed a direct threat. Both Polish and Allied procedures were implemented. The drones, which could have posed a threat, were shot down preemptively. Polish and NATO aircraft, including F-35, F-16, and MI-24, MI-17, and Black Hawk helicopters, were dispatched to the intended area of operation. Ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems were also placed on maximum alert. These operations were preventative in nature and aimed at securing airspace and protecting citizens, especially in areas adjacent to the threatened area.

In recent months, the Polish Air Force has been regularly engaged in missions to secure Polish airspace during the ongoing, massive Russian airstrikes in Ukraine. To date, individual drones have violated Polish airspace several times, but the nighttime incident, in which Polish and allied air forces used weapons against more than a dozen intruding drones, is unprecedented in the recent history of Poland and the North Atlantic Alliance.
