La Spezia, Italy -- Naval forces from multiple allied nations completed Exercise Dynamic Move in La Spezia this week in this high-profile international maritime exercise aimed at enhancing mine countermeasures (MCM) capabilities.

Hosted by the Italian Navy, Dynamic Move brings together MCM specialists to simulate the detection, identification, and neutralization of naval mines in critical scenarios.

The exercise was conducted in the waters of La Spezia naval base, an historical hub for mine-warfare, and involved 15 nations. The goal is to improve interoperability among partner nations and ensure the security of sea lines of communication against underwater threats.

"This exercise is a key opportunity to strengthen cooperation and refine joint tactics in mine countermeasure operations," said Captain Fortunato Genovese, Commander, Standing NATO Mine Counter Measures Group Two. "Underwater Security is essential to both allied defence and international trade, and exercises like Dynamic Move ensure we're prepared to meet modern challenges."

Participating nations include Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia, France, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Türkiye, Ukraine, United States, and the United Kingdom; all with personnel and assets to test real-time coordination, underwater detection technologies, and rapid response protocols. Units assigned to Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group Two also participated in Dynamic Move.

Key components of the exercise included mine detection and clearance using divers and unmanned systems, simulated responses to mine threats in commercial shipping lanes and Joint command-and-control of MCM operations.

Dynamic Move underscores the shared commitment of NATO and partner navies to maintain freedom of navigation, safeguard maritime infrastructure, and respond collectively to evolving underwater threats.

SNMCMG2 is one of NATO's four standing maritime task groups under the operational control of Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM). These task groups form the core maritime capability of NATO's Allied Reaction Force (ARF) and provide a continuous maritime capability to execute NATO missions across the spectrum of operations, demonstrating solidarity and strengthening the bond and interoperability between Allied naval forces. SNMCMG1 ships have played an integral role in Baltic Sentry, NATO's enhanced vigilance activity in the Baltic Sea aimed at protecting CUI.

Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM) is the central command of all NATO maritime forces and the MARCOM Commander is the primary maritime advisor to the Alliance.
