THE HUMANITARIAN COORDINATOR FOR UKRAINE, MATTHIAS SCHMALE, STRONGLY CONDEMNS A RUSSIAN ATTACK IN THE CHERNIHIV REGION, KILLING AND INJURING HUMANITARIAN WORKERS

I am shocked by the tragic news that two of our colleagues from the Danish Refugee Council were killed, and eight others were injured while on duty in today's attack by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the Chernihiv Region.

My heartfelt condolences go to the families of the deceased, and I wish a swift and full recovery to those who were wounded.

Our colleagues dedicated their lives to helping people in Ukraine who are suffering the devastating consequences of war—often at great personal risk.

This year alone, before this attack, at least four humanitarian workers had been killed, and 34 had been injured across Ukraine.

Under international humanitarian law, civilians and those serving them must be protected. They must never be a target.
