PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. -- The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) Armaments Center has entered into an agreement to partner with CIA and IQT, a not-for-profit strategic investor with a unique model that supports the national security community.
The Army will establish a partnership with IQT based out of DEVCOM's Armaments Center, joining other DoD who are already working with IQT. The relationship aims to enhance Army priorities to be more innovative, ready, and agile as the service transforms to deliver capabilities for the future.
IQT identifies, evaluates, and leverages emerging commercial technologies to deliver best-in-class capabilities, insights, and other services to government partners through a unique global investment platform. IQT's portfolio companies develop leading-edge products and software that can be adapted and applied to serve the national security interests of the United States and its allies, including the United Kingdom and Australia.
"Our relationship with IQT combines specific U.S. Army technology needs with IQT's global technology scouting and assessment network to ensure that we deliver innovative capabilities when and where they're required," said Dr. Michael Santaspirt, Chief Futures Officer, Armaments Center.
Unlike traditional investment firms, IQT's success is not measured by financial returns, but by the adoption and national security mission impact of the technologies it invests in for national security.
"The Army will provide a comprehensive problem set of technical challenges and IQT will activate its network to find new and novel technologies that can fill capability gaps," Santaspirt said. "IQT meets with about 1000 companies each year to find the best company founders and technologies that the Army can adopt."
The U.S. Army has long given the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Armaments Center the immense responsibility of being its primary research and development center for new and existing armament systems, which are used by U.S. service members around the world.
"The Armaments Center benefits in particular by augmenting its technology scouting infrastructure, expanding the scope of its Strategic Futures program, and gaining access to companies and technologies that would be otherwise undiscoverable," Santaspirt said.
The Armaments Center, headquartered at Picatinny Arsenal, is part of the larger U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM), which reports to Army Futures Command.
