The Iranian foreign minister has censured the United Nations for its inaction on Israel's crimes in the West Asian region, saying the situation poses an "unprecedented threat" to international security and an "existential danger" to humanity.

Abbas Araghchi made the remarks in a message he issued on Monday to condemn the Israeli assassination of Yemeni government officials in a terrorist airstrike.

He denounced the "cowardly" assassination, which was a blatant violation of Yemen's national sovereignty and territorial integrity, as a "heinous and unprecedented crime" against the Yemeni people, who have truly supported the oppressed Palestinians over the past two years.

"The UN's continued inaction in the face of blatant violations of international law by the Zionist regime, along with the expansion of its acts of aggression and crimes across West Asia ... in Gaza, Yemen, Syria, and Lebanon under military and political support of the US, the UK, and several other Western countries, has severely undermined the credibility of the fundamental norms and principles of international law," he added.

"This situation constitutes an unprecedented threat to international peace and security and an existential danger to humanity."

The top Iranian diplomat also called on regional states and the international community to take "urgent and effective" measures to stop the ongoing Israeli genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and hold the regime's officials accountable for their atrocities.

Meanwhile, he emphasized that the usurping regime's crimes will not weaken the Yemeni people's "iron resolve" to defend their dignity and independence, nor their support for the Palestinian cause.

On the contrary, he said, Israel's criminal acts will further strengthen resistance in Yemen and the entire region.

On August 28, an Israeli strike on the Yemeni capital of Sana'a killed Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Rahawi and several other ministers. They were targeted during a routine workshop held by the government to evaluate its activities.

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the deadly aerial assault was "only the beginning" of the regime's assassination campaign against senior Yemeni officials.

The Yemeni Armed Forces began their operations against Israel, attacking Israeli-linked ships as well as striking targets in the occupied territories in November 2023, a month after the Tel Aviv regime unleashed its genocide in Gaza.

Israel has bombed strategic locations and critical infrastructure across Yemen.
