Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian says international organizations, particularly the United Nations, must take "practical and more serious" actions to put an end to the Israeli regime's crimes and warmongering in the region.

Pezeshkian made the remarks in a meeting with United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the 25th Meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State in northern China's port city of Tianjin on Monday.

He said the Israeli regime imposed the 12-day war on Iran in June while Tehran has always sought peace, commending the UN chief's condemnation of Israel's crimes against the Palestinian people and the regime's attack on the Islamic Republic.

Pezeshkian said Iran came under aggressive attacks from Israel while it was in the midst of indirect negotiations with the United States.

He said Iran has been a primary victim of terrorism, with many of its senior officials assassinated in acts of terrorism.

The Iranian president lashed out at the Israeli regime for conducting arbitrary assassinations in the region under the guise of self-defense.

Pezeshkian further criticized the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and its Director General Rafael Grossi, for refusing to condemn Israeli attacks on Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities, even though the country was under the severest inspections of the agency.

The UN nuclear watchdog's refusal to take a stance in condemnation of Israel's attacks was a violation of all international norms and regulations, he added.

The president explained that despite a parliamentary law suspending Tehran's full cooperation with the IAEA in response to the strikes on the nuclear facilities, Iran tasked its Supreme National Security Council to shape constructive and effective collaboration with the agency.

Iran still seeks interaction and diplomacy to solve issues surrounding its nuclear program, Pezeshkian reiterated.

The Israeli regime launched a blatant and unprovoked attack against Iran on June 13, triggering a 12-day war that killed at least 1,064 people in the country, including military commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians.

The United States also joined the war days later by bombing three Iranian nuclear sites in a grave violation of international law.

In response, the Iranian Armed Forces targeted strategic sites across the occupied territories as well as the al-Udeid air base in Qatar, the largest American military base in West Asia.

For his part, the UN chief expressed his personal conviction that Iran is not seeking to develop nuclear weapons and affirmed Tehran's right to a peaceful nuclear program.

Guterres voiced concern over the activation of the so-called snapback mechanism of sanctions on Iran and said he has asked the three European parties to the 2015 nuclear deal -- Britain, France, and Germany-- to work with Iran on the issue.

On Thursday, the three European states invoked the snapback procedure, a clause enshrined in the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which reinstates pre-JCPOA sanctions on Iran over claims of the Islamic Republic's "significant non-compliance" with the landmark pact.
