STAVANGER, Norway -- NATO military personnel begun training with the Maven Smart System NATO (MSS NATO), the Alliance's first AI-enabled command and control (C2) software, at Joint Warfare Centre (JWC) in Stavanger, Norway from Aug. 18 to 21, 2025.
The training event allowed the over 100 personnel an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the system ahead of its deployment during upcoming exercise Steadfast Duel 2025, one of NATO's largest joint exercises.
"MSS NATO will strengthen our ability to process and act on cross-domain data in real-time," said Colonel Arnel David, Director of the Maven Task Force. "This is about more than just software - it's about transforming how NATO thinks, trains and fights."
MSS NATO will help streamline operations across land, sea, air, cyber and space domains, providing real-time insights and enhancing coordination at operational and strategic levels.
JWC Commander Major General Ruprecht von Butler emphasised the importance of integrating advanced tools into NATO's training environment. "Our warfighters require faster, more agile and realistic simulations. Systems like MSS NATO are critical to delivering that capability," he said
Steadfast Duel 2025 will mark the first large-scale operational test of MSS NATO, involving all three NATO Joint Force Commands - Brunssum, Naples and Norfolk. The exercise will demonstrate the Alliance's ability to operate in complex, multi-domain environments and support NATO's evolving deterrence and defence posture.
As NATO continues to evolve in the face of emerging threats and technological change, the integration of systems like MSS NATO signals a clear commitment to staying at the cutting edge of defence and security.
