Today, 26 August, Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna met with Montenegro's Deputy Prime Minister Filip Ivanović in Tallinn.
During the meeting, Tsahkna told Ivanović that Estonia supports Montenegro's European Union integration and commended Montenegro's successful progress on the path to EU membership. "Montenegro can count on Estonia's strong support in its EU efforts," said Tsahkna. He also emphasized to the Deputy Prime Minister that Estonia is ready to share its own experience of joining the European Union.
The Minister added that EU enlargement is important not only for candidate countries but also for the EU itself. "Montenegro's accession would strengthen the European Union as a whole — both politically and in terms of security," said Tsahkna. "I also value our cooperation within NATO and commend Montenegro for fully aligning with the EU's sanctions measures against Russia and Belarus," he added.
"We have good cooperation with Montenegro in the digital and cyber security fields, but I see many more opportunities and areas where our two countries can further deepen their relations," said Tsahkna.
Tsahkna and Ivanović also discussed support for Ukraine. "We recognize Montenegro's decision and willingness to host a significant number of Ukrainian refugees," noted the Minister. He also stressed that Estonia is ready to contribute to the coalition of will supporting Ukraine.
