Poland and Canada strengthen military cooperation

Poland - Ministry of National Defence

25.08.2025

Poland and Canada are proven allies. We have been cooperating for years. On 5 August, we have signed an agreement regarding the plan of action for the next two years - it encompasses 33 objectives that we will be working towards together with Canada. I am thankful for the acceptance of my invitation by Canada, which will be the leading partner during next year's International Defence Industry Exhibition MSPO in Kielce. We have agreed to further action, especially tightening the cooperation of defence industries and enhancing capabilities together, as well as trainings and exercises for our troops - said the deputy prime minister W. Kosiniak-Kamysz after concluding his talks with the defence minister of Canada, David J. McGuinty.

A discussion between the deputy prime minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and the defence minister of Canada David J. McGuinty took place on 25 August.

Speaking about Polish-Canadian cooperation, the deputy prime minister Kosiniak-Kamysz said:

We want to create Polish-Canadian joint ventures, work together for a secure Europe and invest together in the Ukraine. In June this year, Canada has signed an agreement with the European Union regarding key partnership. We want to obtain funds from European defence programmes together to develop our industries. We have devoted much time today to the cyber area. Our Cyberspace Defence Forces Command is very highly regarded. The entire force, the entire philosophy of creating cyberspace defence is highly praised by our Western partners. Poland is a leader in the implementation of artificial intelligence, but also in responding to incidents that are happening so frequently in Polish internet spaces.

The Polish minister of national defence has reminded that over a hundred Canadian soldiers, conducting a training mission for the Ukrainian soldiers, are stationed in Poland.

Our soldiers in Latvia, the Polish contingent with about 300 Polish troops and Polish tanks, also serve under Canadian command. We are learning there, we train together, we are working together. It is one of the most highly praised contingents by Polish soldiers.

- said the minister of national defence.

Before the meeting at the Ministry of National Defence, prime ministers Donald Tusk and Mark Carney have announced a renewed Polish-Canadian partnership in Warsaw, stressing shared support for Ukraine, strengthening NATO and investments in the security of future generations.

Poland and Canada have declared furthering cooperation in the area of nuclear energy, hydrogen and renewable energy sources. The issue of energy was also one of the key topics of discussion at the Chancellary of the Prime Minister. The Polish prime minister confirmed that Poland will not send soldiers to Ukraine, but will be responsible for logistical assistance and securing the eastern borders of the EU.
