The EU stands firm in its support for the International Criminal Court (ICC). The ICC is the cornerstone of international justice and the fight against impunity, holding perpetrators of the world's gravest crimes to account and giving victims a voice.
The EU once again deeply regrets the decision to impose sanctions on the two deputy Prosecutors and on two judges of the ICC. This decision may impact the functioning of the Office of the Prosecutor and ongoing investigations.
Attacks or threats against the Court, elected officials, personnel and those cooperating with the Court are not acceptable. The ICC must be able to work independently and impartially.
The EU will provide full support and contribution to ensure the protection of the Court and its staff against external pressures or threats. We call upon all States to ensure full cooperation with the Court, including by the prompt execution of outstanding arrest warrants, and to enter into voluntary agreements.
The EU remains committed to working together with all States Parties, and partners around the world, to support the Court and to preserve and respect the Court's independence and the integrity of the Rome Statute.
We are monitoring the implications of the executive order and will assess possible further steps.
