China has condemned the US deployment of Navy destroyers near Venezuela, warning against foreign interference in the internal affairs of the Latin American country.
China opposes "any move that violates the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and a country's sovereignty and security", Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said.
She stressed that Beijing rejects "the interference of external forces in Venezuela's internal affairs under any pretext", calling on Washington to "do more things conducive to peace and security in Latin America and the Caribbean region".
Her remarks came as three US destroyers and an amphibious squadron carrying about 4,000 Marines have been dispatched off the coast of Venezuela allegedly to curb drug trafficking.
Caracas and its allies call the patrols a direct threat to Venezuela's sovereignty.
The Trump administration has also escalated its pressure campaign, increasing the reward for Maduro's capture to $50 million, claiming that he is "one of the world's largest narco-traffickers", an allegation rejected by Caracas.
Maduro has responded by mobilizing 4.5 million members of the Bolivarian Militia and ordering a 30-day suspension of drone flights nationwide, in order to thwart US threats of war against his country.
Iran has condemned the US threats to use force against Venezuela's national sovereignty and territorial integrity, warning of the dangerous consequences of Washington's acts of adventurism for the Caribbean region's peace and security.
Venezuela and the US severed formal diplomatic relations in 2019 after the latter backed opposition leader Juan Guaido in the Latin American country's presidential election. The US government has not recognized Maduro's last two electoral victories.
