Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen has authorised the Finnish Defence Forces to sign a procurement contract on TNT high explosives.
The contract covers the procurement of TNT high explosives for the Finnish Defence Forces from 2028 to 2037. The Finnish company Forcit Pori Oy will supply the explosives.
The overall value of the procurement without value added tax is EUR 189 million. It is related to a project raising the efficiency of explosives production in Finland and securing access to domestically-produced TNT high explosives.
Forcit Pori Oy will build a new plant to meet the growing demand. The plant is estimated to employ 70 people. It will have significant indirect effects especially on the logistics and chemicals industry. In addition, the construction of the plant will create new jobs and benefit the City of Pori and its economic region.
Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen emphasised the importance of the new plant for homeland defence.
"At the Ministry of Defence, we started preparing the construction of a TNT plant to safeguard domestic security of supply in Finland. The Finnish-owned TNT plant in Satakunta ensures that Finland will be able to rely on the domestic industry's capacity to produce high explosives for heavy ammunition. Once operational, the plant will be an important component of military security of supply in Europe. Our procurement decision will ensure a sufficiently high volume of orders over the long term, making it feasible to build a new plant in Finland," Minister Häkkänen said.
