MANILA -- The Philippine Army (PA) on Thursday announced that its Cessna 172L aircraft held a series of maritime air patrol (MARPAT) missions over the coastal areas of Northeastern Luzon from Aug. 16 to 19, as part of its maritime domain awareness efforts.

The Cessna 172L was flown by Special Mission Aviation Company, of the Army Aviation Regiment (AAR), PA spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala said in a statement.

"The mission covered the archipelagic waters and territorial seas over Aurora, Isabela, Cagayan, the Calayan Group of Islands, and the Philippine Rise," he added.

No other details were provided regarding the MARPAT mission due to security reasons.

Dema-ala said the AAR regularly conducts MARPAT missions to ensure that the country's maritime frontiers are protected, secure, and effectively monitored against any form of internal and external threats.

"The MARPAT, as part of the Commanding General's (Lt. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete) thrust on Personnel-Centric Information Advantage, ensures the PA and its troops are well-aware of its operational environment to secure timely information that can aid in its over-all critical decision-making process as it secures the land domain of our country's sovereign territories," he added.
