Statement by Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide on Israel's attack on Gaza City
Government of Norway
News story | Date: 21/08/2025
'Norway condemns Israel's attack on, and attempt to seize control of, Gaza City. This represents a further escalation of an already catastrophic war and puts a population that has already suffered immensely in extreme danger', said Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide.
'Israel's actions make it even more difficult to bring the war to an end, to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the population, and to secure the release of the remaining Israeli hostages.
'The Israeli warfare in Gaza has violated fundamental principles of international law and must cease immediately.
'The humanitarian situation in Gaza is catastrophic. Further military operations will cause extensive civilian casualties and affect innocent people who are already living under unbearable conditions.
'It is more important than ever to lay the foundation for a political solution that ensures that the Palestinian people's historic right to self-determination in their own state is realised', said Eide.
