Regarding Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi's visit to Afghanistan, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated on Thursday that Wang said China has always advocated equality among countries, regardless of size, and that all countries should treat each other as equals and pursue win-win cooperation.
The world should not be one where the rich grow richer and the poor poorer; every country, including Afghanistan, has the right to achieve development and revitalization. China pursues a friendly policy toward all the Afghan people, respects the choices of the Afghan people, supports the Afghan government in sound governance and focusing on development, and is committed to building lasting good-neighborliness and stability, the spokesperson said.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi visited Afghanistan on Wednesday and met with Afghan Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, Afghan Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani and Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, and attended the sixth China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers' Dialogue.
Since the China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Foreign Ministers' Dialogue resumed in 2022, it has achieved positive progress. Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that China is ready to deepen good-neighborly trust with Afghanistan and Pakistan, to show mutual understanding and support on issues concerning each other's core interests, and to further strengthen exchanges at all levels to consolidate strategic mutual trust, Mao Ning said.
In response to a media inquiry about whether China currently recognizes the Taliban's interim government in Afghanistan, following Russia's official recognition last month, Mao said on Thursday that China pursues a friendly policy toward all Afghan people and is willing to work with Afghanistan to advance bilateral relations.
