MANILA -- Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. on Wednesday vowed "swift, firm and uncompromising action" against military personnel who will be involved in corruption.
In a statement, Brawner said soliciting or accepting money, gifts, favors, or services from contractors, suppliers, or stakeholders "has absolutely no place in military service."
"Such acts violate not only the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials, and AFP regulations — they violate the very essence of our oath," he said.
"And to this, the AFP's answer is resolute: swift, firm, and uncompromising action," Brawner added.
He stressed that this is in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s guidance against corruption in all its forms.
According to Brawner, integrity and professionalism are not optional virtues in the military, as these characteristics are what it means to be a soldier, airman, sailor, or marine.
"Public office is a public trust. We exist to serve the Filipino people with honor, never to use our position for personal gain," he said.
The AFP chief called on all Filipino citizens and their stakeholders to be their partners in vigilance, and urged them to report any irregularities they may have encountered or witnessed.
"Walang puwang sa ating hanay ang katiwalian at hindi natin ito palalampasin (Corruption has no place in our ranks and will not be tolerated). Commanders and leaders at all levels are not just directed — but duty-bound — to enforce this policy, with accountability extending to those who turn a blind eye," Brawner said. (PNA)
