US should restrain its frontline forces, immediately cease infringing and provocative actions against China: Ministry of National Defense

In response to a media inquiry regarding the reported illegal intrusion of the US destroyer Higgins into the territorial waters of China's Huangyan Dao, which was subsequently driven away by Chinese forces, and the US Navy's seventh fleet claiming that China's statement would not stop them, after the navy of the Southern Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army made a statement, Jiang Bin, a spokesperson for China's Ministry of National Defense (MND), stated on Friday that Huangyan Dao is an inherent part of China's territory. China expresses strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition to this, and has lodged a solemn representation to the US side.

The US destroyer Higgins illegally intruded into the territorial waters of Huangyan Dao without the approval of the Chinese government, seriously violating China's territorial sovereignty and national security, severely undermining peace and stability in the South China Sea, and wantonly trampling on international law and the basic principles of international relations, Jiang said.

We demand that the US effectively restrain its frontline forces and immediately cease their infringing and provocative actions against China. The Chinese military remains on high alert, resolutely safeguarding national sovereignty and security, and firmly maintaining regional peace and stability, said Jiang.
