MANILA -- Philippine Army (PA) commander Lt. Gen. Antonio Nafarrete has affirmed the service's commitment to the Comprehensive Archipelagic Defense Concept (CADC) during a courtesy call with Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. earlier this week.
In a news release on Wednesday, PA spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala said the meeting took place at the Department of National Defense building in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City on Aug. 11.
"During the call, the Army chief discussed the PA's role in the CADC as it embarks on its continued modernization and transformation thrusts," Dema-ala said.
Under CADC, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is tasked to protect all of the country's territories, including its 200-nautical mile exclusive economic zone.
Dema-ala said the PA stands resolute in its mission to provide responsive, credible, and capable forces to the AFP through modernization, doctrinal refinement, and organizational development.
In a separate statement, the AFP said Nafarrete also met with AFP chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. at Camp Aguinaldo on Tuesday.
"The meeting highlighted the continuing collaboration and unified leadership between the AFP's top command and its major service branches," the AFP said.
It added that Nafarrete's visit "served as a reaffirmation of the PA's commitment to the AFP's mission of protecting national sovereignty and supporting peace and development efforts across the country."
Nafarrete formally assumed command of the PA on July 31, succeeding Lt. Gen. Roy Galido, who retired after two years as PA commander. (PNA)
