Authorities in Gaza say the Israeli military is desperately and pathetically attempting to cover up internationally documented crimes and the systematic starvation of the population across the blockaded Palestinian territory.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Gaza's Government Media Office stated that the UN and other international organizations had documented scores of deaths "as a result of starvation and lack of food and medicine due to the closure of crossings, the imposition of a comprehensive blockade, and the prevention of the entry of food and aid."
The statement seems to have been a response to an Israeli military's post published on X that claimed, "Hamas is misrepresenting deaths from pre-existing medical conditions as malnutrition to advance their political agenda."
"The occupation claimed that some of the martyrs suffered from chronic diseases to exonerate itself, but international law is clear: even chronically ill people need food, medical care, and medicine, all of which the occupation has deprived them of through its policy of blockade and prevention of their entry into Gaza," it added.
Elsewhere in the statement, the office insisted that the death toll issued by the Palestinian Ministry of Health is "accurate and documented according to clear health standards".
Gaza lies in ruins after 22 months of Israel's genocidal war, raising concerns about worsening starvation in the territory.
Palestinian health officials warned that hundreds of people could die as hospitals were overwhelmed with patients experiencing dizziness and exhaustion amid a breakdown in aid deliveries.
Food crisis experts have been warning of an imminent famine in Gaza amid the all-out Israeli war and blockade.
The Israeli attacks have intensified in Gaza City and other parts of the besieged territory as United Nations experts warned that the "worst-case scenario of famine" is unfolding in the besieged territory, where forced starvation and malnutrition are driving a rise in hunger-related deaths among the Palestinians.
Death and destruction are raging across Gaza as more Palestinians fall victim to indiscriminate attacks by the Israeli military.
Dozens of Palestinians, including aid seekers, have been killed in fresh attacks across Gaza since dawn on Tuesday.
At least 89 Palestinians, including 31 aid seekers, have been killed and 513 injured in Israeli attacks across the territory in the past 24 hours, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
The Israeli genocide, which began in October 2023 with direct support from the United States, has so far killed nearly 61,600 Palestinians, leaving more than 154,000 others injured.
Earlier this year, research published in the Lancet medical journal estimated that the death toll in Gaza was about 40% higher than numbers recorded by the Palestinian Health Ministry.
The study reviewed hospital records, online civilian death submissions, and an independently compiled list based on social media obituaries and death announcements.
By comparing the three lists, researchers concluded that the number of people killed in Gaza was significantly higher than the figure reported by health authorities in the besieged territory.
