President Gitanas Nausėda spoke by telephone with President Alexander Stubb of Finland on Tuesday to discuss the international security situation and possible negotiations on peace in Ukraine.
The two leaders reaffirmed their strong support for Ukraine's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, stressing that these fundamental principles of international law are not subject to negotiation. President Gitanas Nausėda underscored that decisions shaping the future of Ukraine and of Europe as a whole must involve representatives from both Ukraine and the European Union.
The Lithuanian leader informed his Finnish counterpart about his recent conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and expressed interest in Finland's assessment of the progress of negotiations between the United States and Russia and the outcomes of the latest meetings. He also called on Finland, together with the other Nordic-Baltic Six countries, to support Ukraine's aim to begin negotiations on European Union membership as soon as possible.
President Gitanas Nausėda also stressed the importance of continuing efforts towards comprehensive security guarantees for Ukraine and of drawing the international community's attention to the fate of abducted Ukrainian children, prisoners of war, and detained civilians.
