The Palestinian Hamas resistance movement has called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a "war criminal," saying his false statements about Gaza will not absolve the regime from its genocidal war on the strip.
In a statement released on Sunday, Hamas said remarks by Netanyahu about the occupation of Gaza will fail to conceal the regime's true intention, which is expansion through genocide.
"The statements of criminal Netanyahu are nothing but desperate attempts to absolve the Zionist entity and its army of genocide and starvation that have killed more than 18,000 children," adding that such statements are a continuation of his "misleading rhetoric to justify war crimes and distort facts."
The statement added that Netanyahu's use of the term "liberation" distorts the reality of occupation as defined by international law and relevant UN resolutions.
"This blatant tactic cannot cover up 22 months of systematic genocide, killing, and destruction. His claims of [Israeli forces] 'not wanting to stay in Gaza' are mere deception hiding his plans for forced displacement, destruction of civilian infrastructure, and installing a subordinate authority."
The statement pointed to the remarks by Netanyahu at a press conference on Sunday, during which he stressed that "we don't want to stay in Gaza, that's not our purpose," insisting that he does not want to prolong the war but to "free" Gaza from Hamas.
According to the Hamas statement, Netanyahu and his war cabinet do not care about captives since many of them have died due to intense Israeli bombardment.
Hamas stressed that the only way to ensure the safety of captives is through a ceasefire agreement, but Netanyahu wants to use the captives as a pretext for expanding the war and occupying the Gaza Strip.
Netanyahu's attempts to deceive the international community through false statistics will not absolve him of responsibility for the starvation of 217 civilians, including 100 children, Hamas said.
The aid entering Gaza only meets 10% of humanitarian needs, it said, adding that latest reports by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification contradict Netanyahu's claims, confirming severe hunger and child deaths from starvation, while the occupation deliberately closes crossings and drops aid in dangerous areas or on sea, killing dozens.
It asserted that Netanyahu's insistence on continuing aid distribution through the deadly Israel-US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which has already killed nearly 1,800 Palestinians, reveals his plans for using starvation as a tool for the forced displacement of the population.
His denial of killing aid-seekers contradicts documentation by international organizations and media of systematic shooting of civilians gathering food at the locations known as 'death traps', it noted.
Netanyahu's assertion that his criminal army allows international journalists to cover events is contradicted by on-the-ground realities and reports from media organizations still seeking access to Gaza to document his army's atrocities, Hamas further declared.
"His misleading statement contradicts his army's bloody record of targeting and killing over 260 Palestinian journalists, making this war globally the worst for journalist casualties. We challenge Netanyahu to allow free access for international journalists and media agencies, which would expose his crimes."
The statement affirmed that the international community has a legal and moral responsibility to take immediate action against the Israeli regime, hold the Occupying Entity's leaders accountable, and lift the siege to ensure "safe, [and] complete delivery of humanitarian aid to all of Gaza areas."
Since the Israeli regime began its genocidal campaign in Gaza in October 2023, it has killed 61,430 Palestinians and wounded 153,213, most of them children and women.
