The Gaza Health Ministry reports that seven more Palestinians have died of starvation in the past 24 hours, as Israel's siege on the enclave continues.
"Hospitals recorded seven fatalities in Gaza in the past 24 hours as a result of famine and malnutrition," the Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
The new deaths brought the death toll from starvation to 154, including 89 children.
Last week, the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) warned that one-third of Gaza's population had gone without food for several consecutive days due to Israel's brutal siege.
The WFP estimates that 25% of Palestinians in Gaza face famine-like conditions, as 100,000 children and women are already suffering from acute malnutrition.
"The unbearable suffering of the people of Gaza is already clear for the world to see. Waiting for official confirmation of famine to provide life-saving food aid they desperately need is unconscionable," said Cindy McCain, the WFP's Executive Director.
"We need to flood Gaza with large-scale food aid, immediately and without obstruction, and keep it flowing each and every day to prevent mass starvation. People are already dying of malnutrition, and the longer we wait to act, the higher the death toll will rise," McCain added.
Palestinian officials say that a minimum of 500 aid trucks per day are needed to meet the needs of the territory's entire population.
The youngest in Gaza are bearing the brunt of the starvation crisis triggered by Israel's months-long blockade, as supplies of baby formula have run out in hospitals and mothers have nothing to feed newborns.
The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) released a report on Tuesday, warning that "the worst-case scenario of famine" is unfolding in Gaza as food consumption and nutrition indicators have reached their worst levels since Israel's genocidal war began in October 2023.
"Mounting evidence shows that widespread starvation, malnutrition, and disease are driving a rise in hunger-related deaths. Latest data indicates that famine thresholds have been reached for food consumption in most of the Gaza Strip and for acute malnutrition in Gaza City," the report said.
"We call for the immediate end to the blockade and a full return to the distribution of food and essential supplies by the UN and other humanitarian organizations, in accordance with humanitarian principles," the report added.
Since launching its genocidal war on Gaza, Israel has killed over 60,000 Palestinians and injured more than 146,000, most of them women and children.
